Listening is the new reading

Since my little guy entered the world, almost a year ago. Time to read comes in 10-minute slots here and there, very frustrating for a self-confessed book addict. With a baby that will only nap on me or while out in the fresh air, that doesn’t leave time to cosy up with a cup of tea and a book.  Yes, I too thought I’d be able to read while he fed or snoozed on my belly, but I’ve produced a light sleeper, that with the turn of a page, or movement of an arm will open his eyes, brow furrowed, and sigh.  Yes, I think he’s too young for such an expression too!

I will not be defeated however, books still land on the doormat and sit piled up beside my bed, sofa, chair, you get the picture. This bookworm cannot be kept from the written word for long, audiobooks and podcasts have become my new best friends. So while the physical books patiently wait for my return, you’ll find me plugged in, silently absorbing as I walk and breathe in the fresh air or nurse my bub to sleep.

Here are some of my favourites:

Podcasts

Yogaland

I LOVE hearing people’s yoga story and Yogaland is full of them. You’ll find lots of uplifting conversations, some with well-known guests and some with everyday Yogi’s talking about life, and all things yoga.

Happy mama with Amy

Amy talks with other Mamas in a language my soul craves. So much grace and gentle honesty. For any Mamas out there tired to the bone, or having a rough time of it, tune in and know you’re not alone.

ReWild Yourself

I discovered Daniel Vitalis during my studies with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition

He talks about what is natural for the human race, how our world pulls us out of sync with our natural way of being and how to return to it. Having a hard time describing it as it blows my mind slightly, so go and check it out for yourself.

Sarah Jensen

Your go-to gal for all things related to creating an online business and goal setting.

  1. Enjoyed reading this, especially as I’ve got into audio books and podcasts too lately. I’m loving ‘The Courage to be Creative’ by Doreen Virtue. It’s a perfect blend of the practical and the spiritual. I love Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic podcast too!

    1. Thanks Greta :). I love Elizabeth Gilbert’s podcast too, and the beautiful writers podcast. I love the sound of Doreen Virtue’s book, looking forward to diving into that one. Thank you for the recommendation x

  2. Super post Nichola and some great suggestions. Audiobooks have been a huge solace for this year especially at night, falling asleep to David Whyte and Clarissa Pinkola Estes. Perfect bedtime stories. Hope you get to read some print books soon xx
